In 2007, Catherine Mulvale climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. After reaching the summit, she felt a calling to help the people of Tanzania. Under the guidance of Respecius Baitwa, she visited a humble home in Mirerani.
It was the home of the late John Petro—a simple man with an extraordinary heart—who had taken orphans into his own house and cared for them with the very little he had.
Catherine left with a calling to bring together her global network to give these children a place to belong. Today, that home is Rafiki Child Care Home, giving hope to 36 children within its walls and hundreds more outside them.
One of those children is the founder of Resilience Expeditions—Godwin Nyerere. The idea grew into the Global Friends Foundation, which now empowers communities across Africa.

For Godwin, Mount Kilimanjaro is more than a mountain — it is home, inspiration, and a place that changed his life. After spending years guiding climbers from all over the world, he realized the most meaningful part of every expedition was not just reaching the summit, but the friendships, emotions, and unforgettable memories created along the journey.
With that passion, he founded Resilience Expeditions to share the true spirit of Tanzania through genuine care, local hospitality, and life-changing adventures. Every trip reflects his belief that every guest should arrive as a traveler and leave as family.
Baraka is the heart of comfort on the mountain. With years of experience cooking at high altitude, he is known for preparing fresh, energizing meals that keep climbers motivated throughout their trek. His warm personality and dedication to quality food bring smiles to camp every evening, making guests feel at home even in the middle of the mountain wilderness.
Steven’s journey on Mount Kilimanjaro began in 2016, and through hard work and determination, he has proudly grown through every level of mountain operations. Starting as a porter, then serving as a waiter, camping crew member, and later becoming a guide, Steven understands every detail of life on the mountain from firsthand experience.
Today, as Kilimanjaro Operations Coordinator, he brings that deep knowledge and dedication into organizing smooth and successful expeditions. His journey reflects the true spirit of resilience, teamwork, and passion that defines our company.
Josephine brings creativity, fresh energy, and thoughtful planning to every safari experience we create. With a natural talent for organizing unforgettable journeys, she helps turn ideas into seamless adventures across Tanzania. Beyond her professionalism, Josephine is known for her kindness, warm spirit, and genuine care for every guest — qualities that make her a truly valued part of our team.
