About this safari
The 4-Day Tanzania Northern Circuit Safari is the ideal condensed wildlife experience — covering three of Tanzania's greatest parks in four days without compromising on the quality of the game viewing. It visits Tarangire for its legendary elephant herds and baobab landscapes, then spends two full nights in the Serengeti to ensure you have genuine time on Africa's most iconic plains, before culminating in a full descent into the Ngorongoro Crater for a concentrated Big Five finale.
Every departure is private — your group has a dedicated 4×4 game vehicle with a pop-up roof hatch and a TANAPA-licensed naturalist guide throughout. Full board is included at all accommodation. This itinerary is particularly popular with travellers combining it with a Kilimanjaro climb, or those on a tighter schedule who don't want to compromise on the Serengeti.
Many 4-day itineraries spend only one night in the Serengeti, arriving in the afternoon and leaving the next morning — less than 18 hours on the world's greatest plains. Our 4-day itinerary prioritises two Serengeti nights, giving you a full dawn-to-dusk Day 3 in the park with a 6:00 am drive that catches the last of the night's predator activity. The additional night transforms the experience.
Your dedicated naturalist guide uses radio, experience, and local knowledge to track wildlife. You stay at sightings for as long as you want. Whether you want to watch a cheetah for an hour or spend the morning photographing birds, the itinerary bends to you — not the other way round.
This safari is our most popular add-on after a Kilimanjaro climb. After descending the mountain, a recovery day in Moshi is followed by four days of sitting in a comfortable 4×4 watching extraordinary wildlife — the ideal physical and mental decompression. View the Kilimanjaro + Safari Combo page for combined pricing.
The three parks
Each park has a completely distinct character — the 4-day itinerary sequences them to build in scale from intimate elephant country to the world's greatest wildlife stage.
Tarangire National Park
Tanzania's most underrated park — vast baobab forests, the Tarangire River drawing elephants in their hundreds, and predator sightings that rival the Serengeti. Extraordinary birding with 550+ species recorded.
Serengeti National Park
The world's most iconic wildlife destination — 14,763 km² of plains, kopjes, and acacia woodland with resident lion prides, leopards in fig trees, cheetah, and the Great Migration of 1.5 million wildebeest.
Ngorongoro Crater — World Heritage Site
The world's largest intact volcanic caldera — 260 km² of enclosed Eden with approximately 25,000 large mammals and one of Earth's most accessible black rhino populations. A closed ecosystem where the Big Five can be seen in a single day. UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Your private 4×4 and naturalist guide collect you from your Moshi or Arusha hotel after breakfast. The drive south through the Maasai steppe (~2 hours) delivers you to Tarangire Gate. The park entry is immediate and dramatic — baobab trees as ancient as civilisation line the ridges, and elephants are nearly always visible within the first 10 minutes. Tarangire is one of Africa's best-kept secrets: extraordinary wildlife density, almost no crowds.

After breakfast at the Tarangire lodge, begin the drive north through the Maasai steppe toward the Serengeti. The transition as you enter through the Naabi Hill Gate is one of the great moments in African travel — the landscape opens suddenly to an almost incomprehensible horizon of golden grass. Game drives begin immediately. The central Seronera area holds resident lion prides and leopards in the fig trees year-round.

The finale. An early departure from the Serengeti brings you to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, from where you descend into the world's largest intact volcanic caldera — a 260 km² enclosed ecosystem with approximately 25,000 large mammals. The black rhino population here is among the most accessible in Africa. After 6–7 hours on the crater floor, you ascend the rim and drive back to Moshi or Arusha, arriving by early evening.
06:00Early departure — Serengeti to NgorongoroLeave Serengeti camp early to maximise crater time. The Big Five — all on this safari
Three parks, two of which reliably produce all five. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few places on Earth where all five can be seen in a single day.
4-day vs 5-day safari
Our 5-day safari adds Lake Manyara (tree-climbing lions, flamingoes) between Tarangire and the Serengeti. The 4-day is the right choice for those on a tighter schedule who prioritise maximising Serengeti time.
You are viewing
Tarangire · Serengeti · Ngorongoro
Best for travellers with limited time who want maximum Serengeti exposure. Two nights on the plains means a full dawn-to-dusk day 3.

Year-round operation — with important differences by season:
| Months | Season | Game Viewing | Migration | Prices |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan – Feb | Dry · warm | Excellent | Calving — southern Serengeti | High |
| Mar – May | Long rains | Good | Western corridor | Low |
| Jun – Jul | Dry (early) | Excellent | Central/western massing | High |
| Aug – Oct | Dry (peak) | Excellent | River crossings — north | Highest |
| Nov | Short rains | Good | Herds returning south | Low |
| Dec | Dry · warm | Excellent | Southern plains | High |
The Great Migration's river crossings (July–October) are the most dramatic wildlife spectacle on Earth and occur in the northern Serengeti — some distance from the central Seronera area that this itinerary covers. If witnessing river crossings is a priority, let us know and we'll adjust the Serengeti game drive area or extend to include the northern circuit.

Most 4-day safaris visit four parks but spend only one night in the Serengeti — arriving mid-afternoon on Day 2 and leaving Day 3 morning, giving you less than 18 hours on the world's greatest plains. Our 4-day itinerary drops Lake Manyara to prioritise two full Serengeti nights, giving you a complete dawn-to-dusk Day 3 on the Serengeti with a 6:00 am drive and a bush breakfast. The Serengeti rewards time. If you want to add Lake Manyara, the 5-day safari includes all four parks while maintaining two Serengeti nights.
-
Yes, entirely. Your group has a dedicated 4×4 vehicle and naturalist guide for all four days. You will never share a vehicle or a sighting with strangers. Your guide tailors the drive to your interests — if you want to spend the entire morning watching a leopard hunt, that is exactly what happens. No shared tour buses, no group schedules, no compromises.
-
Yes — this is our most popular Kilimanjaro add-on. After your Kilimanjaro descent and a recovery day in Moshi, you depart on this 4-day safari and return to Moshi on Day 4 for your departure flight. The complete Kilimanjaro + 4-day safari expedition runs 10–12 days depending on your chosen climbing route. Dedicated combination pricing is available — contact us to build your complete itinerary.
-
The 5-day safari adds Lake Manyara National Park on Day 2 — a half-day game drive through the park before continuing to the Serengeti. Lake Manyara is famous for its tree-climbing lions (unique in Africa), pink flamingoes in the shallows, and Rift Valley views. Both the 4-day and 5-day itineraries include two Serengeti nights. If you have an extra day and want more park variety, the 5-day is the obvious upgrade. If you want maximum Serengeti time with a tighter schedule, the 4-day is correct.

Absolutely — and it makes perfect sense. After four days of game drives, three or four nights on Zanzibar's white sand beaches is the ideal decompression. We arrange the Zanzibar flight from Arusha, accommodation, activities, and transfers. View our 10-Day Safari & Zanzibar Combo for the full combined package, or contact us to build a customised itinerary that includes this 4-day safari and Zanzibar.
